Baby Bella Day 61

Today was another peaceful day! Bella slept most of the day, only a couple of awake moments. She was still tired from the eye exam yesterday and a 4 hour trial on the cannula early this morning. She also had another good 3 hour run on the cannula this afternoon. The white spot that popped up last night has turned into a tiny hole. They said this is nothing to be alarmed about at this time. It is what the resident last night suspected, a pocket of fluid that is bringing itself to the surface. They just have to keep a close eye on it to ensure it does not become infected. I got the results of her eye exam this morning and they could have been better. They judge preemie eyes by zones and stages. Her eyes seem to be on track but the blood vessels are growing in a jagged pattern instead of straight lines. This could correct itself over the next couple of weeks. However, if it does not, she would most likely have to go through laser eye surgery that is most often very effective. I will have to read up more on this tonight to make sure I understand it all.

Here are some more pictures...one especially for Daddy in one of his favorite outfits (love you Big Guy)!!!

Yay Bella! Love cannula girl! She does look so much bigger and chunkier too! I love chunky little babies. That's how they are supposed to be! Don't stress to much over her eyes. They are still very young and will get more mature. Big wet sloppt kisses from us!

Ditto Mere... her eyes still have time to correct. Rhys had stage 2 ROP in both eyes (on the verge of needing surgery) and it regressed on its own. The doctor said from day one she didn't think it would be a problem and she was right! But, the corrective surgery they have now (like you said) is very effective and keeps these little guys from going blind. Bella also has not been on high amounts of O2, which contributes to the ROP, so she has that going for her!

Ok I have always thought she is adorable, but the smile just melted my heart! Her eyes will heal on their own I bet. My cousin had the same thing when she was a premie and it did. Many prayers!
