Baby Bella Day 58

I think everyone is catching onto our "chunky monkey" nickname for Isabella...even she is taking it to heart!!! The angel is up to 1655grams, 3lb 10.5oz. Colleen and I had to weigh her three times to ensure that she actually gained 60grams in one day. I was scared she was going to lose weight because she had been so active all day. But I think she was actually looking for her Daddy. He left this morning and will be gone for two weeks. Luckily he was able to get one more glimpse of her in before his morning flight. I am certain she is attracted to his deep voice and fun sounds he does with her. I am trying to mimic the interaction he has with her, but I am sure she knows the difference.

I mentioned yesterday that she had a ring on her skin around one of her stomas. Dr. McGahren saw it this morning and was not concerned. They decided to remove the vaseline gauze that sat on top. Now they are just dressing it with ointment and dry gauze. Letting it breath a little more should help it dry out. Based on comparing it this evening to yesterday, it already looks much better. Bella is still taking her basic round of medicines; caffeine, actigal, L-carnatine, and sodium. She has continued to do well on her nasal cannula trials. They plan to TRY to extend her time on the trial in the morning. The trials will still be every 12 hours, but they will keep her on the cannula between 1 and 2 hours. As long as she is breathing well at the 1 hour mark, they will leave her on the cannula but not to exceed 2 hours.

Isabella was a popular girl today. Not only did she have nurses come over that had not seen her precious face in a few days, she also had two friends come visit her. Lauren came by first and got to see the princess with her cannula in along with all her heart melting facial expressions. We think we even spotted a dimple in her right cheek. Then David stopped by after arriving into town to head up to New Market for work. Thank you both for entertaining me today!!!

Peace be with you & God Bless!!!

Today I went to lunch with Bill and Grandma Rose. She has been taking care of preemie baby Emma since Emma came home. Rose gave me advice to pass on to you for when Isbella comes home. But I will wait and maybe let Rose tell you her self. Emma was born in mid-June- her due date was Sept 9th. Rose was impressed with Isabella's weight gain and the cannula. I told her that Bella has the nickname of "chunky monkey". I know Grandma Kathy is coming on the 9th. That will be great for all three of you girls. Wish I could be there. Much love, Marilyn
