Baby Bella Day 87

Nothing too exciting happened with Isabella today. She continues to sleep on and off with ocassional cries of hunger. No more poopy diapers since last night. All of her labs from this morning were good. The hermatacrit was low so she did end up getting a blood transfusion; her color looks much better tonight. The biggest issue of the day however is that she cannot keep an IV flowing. She moves her limbs so much bending her ankles and wrists that the IV ends up becoming weak and not lasting long. In 24 hours she has had three different IVs placed. As a result, they are thinking she needs a more permanent placement for fluid transfer. Jen tried to place a PICC line in two different veins with no success. That means the next approach is a possible central line. Chris and I are both hesitant to this remedy. I expressed that opinion to the staff and they discussed it. So for right now Bella is getting trials of Pedialite along with the TPN through the IV. If she handles the Pedialite well, they may start feeds tomorrow. This will allow her to come off the IV fluids faster and dismiss the need for a central line. Right now her IV is on the inside of her left arm. I laid both of her Zaky's on her arms to keep them straight, it seems to be working for the moment. And it is so cute to see her kick her legs up in the air.

I hope everyone out there is doing well; thank you so much for continuing to keep up with our angel's progress. God Bless!

I have been reading your blog for about two weeks now. Your little one is doing so well! I will be praying that she will get to go to Texas here soon!

One question - have they even considered a head iv? I know they don't look nice, but supposedly they are more likely to last. My daughter need antibiotics after she was born, and had the head iv for almost 5 days (after the arm one failed).

It's good to hear Bella is doing ok generally. Hope the Pedalite works and they don't have to do the central IV. Good idea to put the Zakys on to keep her arms still. Right now Texas is really dry, but the redbuds and huisache are blooming. So Spring is very close. And so is your coming home. Take care, love you, prayers. M
