Baby Bella Day 51

Isabella had a nice day! I got to hold her for almost two hours this afternoon. Bella zonked out on my chest in such a relaxed mode. Then Daddy and I did all of her care at 9pm. She was wide awake for the care and had a great time interacting with us. She did get a little over stimulated at the tail end and let us know by pitching a tiny bit of a fit. Right now Bella is doing well on her feeds, digesting the fortifier nicely. She is up to 1460g (3lb 3oz) and 39cm (13.75 in). They have her on L-carnatine for muscle tone, hordisol for jaundice, and caffeine to stimulate breathing. Looks like the normal preemie track from what we can tell; the apnea and bradycardia is slowly working itself out. Hopefully she will be able to push toward breathing on cannula some time next week.

Our Bella has been doing well, but today was a very difficult day in the NICU. You become very attached to other families, other babies in the NICU. You go through very similar difficulties, you talk to other parents, we are each others support through the difficult times and we share the joys in the good times. Unfortunately, Bella's neighbor for her first 6 weeks Cherish passed away today. It is so difficult to not see her when we pass by her old bed spot. Her parents were very kind hearted people who spent a lot of time at Cherish's side. We have prayed for her many times and tonight we prayed for the Lord to accept this little angel into Heaven and to comfort her family in their time of need. Shortly after Cherish passed away, another baby who was breifly our neighbor last week, also passed away after emergency surgery. Machel and I couldn't believe it. We have been here 7 weeks now and to be honest it is something that we try to block out and not think about. We try to focus on the positive and continue to look to the future, all of us parents in the NICU do that, it helps us cope with the situation. But now we are faced with the somber reality that the Lord sometimes calls these babies up to Heaven early and we have to trust in him. I ask that each of you pray for Baby Cherish and Baby Mohammed and their families. Remember to enjoy every moment of your life and tell your family and friends every chance you get that you love them. So thank you all for all of the prayers and love. We love you all very much.

Isaiah 26:19
But your dead will live;
their bodies will rise.
You who dwell in the dust,
wake up and shout for joy.
Your dew is like the dew of the morning;
the earth will give birth to her dead.

We lost our daughter Savannah at 6 weeks old. She had a heart condition and it was not quite the same as having a preemie but those 6 weeks changed us forever. Just knowing that people knew her and loved her brought such joy to our hearts during such a dark time. We prayed and trusted that God would do His will, and He did- not what we wanted but, it was His will. John 9 talks about the man that was blind from birth- "the disciples asked was it his sins or his parents sins that caused him to be blind from birth?" Jesus said "Neither- it was so I may be glorified" That is what we live off of now "That He may be glorified". Always remember God is Good- All the time' You will be incredible witnesses to other parents- this experience is precious and the stories you will be able to tell your Bella- will be awesome! She will be a wonderful and Godly woman and that will be because of her parents. I check on you daily and you are in my prayers.
"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus" Phil 4:19

God is good-All the time- Sarah

Shortly before our sweet Logan passed away, his neighbor in the NICU passed away. I was devastated. I think you go through life not wanting to believe that these things happen. Now, every time I go out to visit Logan it seems that there is a new grave in Babyland. It just breaks my heart. It makes you look at life a little differently. Sometimes, however, it's as if I can hear Logan telling me "Why are you sad for me? I'm in heaven! I got to go straight to heaven and it's wonderful!" Most of us have to endure many hardships here on earth before we get to go "home." I will be praying for the two families and hope that they find the peace that only God can provide.

It's good to hear the progress that Baby Bella is making. And that you are helping so much with her care. That will be a big help when you get to take her home. I will say prayers for the babies that were lost, but are in heaven. And for their families. This is from one of my favorite hymns.
"And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand."
Keep concentrating on the positive and how well Bella is doing. She is a strong little girl. And much loved. LOVE, Marilyn
