Chris and I spent all of today together, so we are going to tag team this one...ok, nevermind, he just fell asleep on me!!!
Overall Bella seems like she had a good day. This morning before Luke left, we all went to visit her. Uncle Luke was so excited...he counted her take 27 breaths in a row on her own. Each subsequent visit showed that she was fairly stable and doing about the same as she has been over the last several days...with possibly a little better breathing. At our first visit they did tell us that the PDA was still there, we just had to wait to see "how there" it still is. At our second visit we were able to catch rounds. Here we found out that her PDA is still moderate and they need to evaluate her more closely to determine whether to treat with a different drug or do surgery. They also ordered an ultrasound of her abdomen to see about any intestinal problems that may have come from the prior medicine. On our third visit, we found out that her intestines are inflamed...question is if it is from the PDA treatments...there are no other signs of infection. They started her on an antibiotic this evening to help with the inflamation. There is another ultrasound scheduled for in the morning. After reading tomorrows ultrasound they will determine how to proceed...either another medicine treatment with a new med or go ahead with the ligation surgery (putting a small clamp to close the PDA). They are being cautious at the moment because the inflamation could lead to a perforation in the bowel that would need additional treatment. Although these items seem scary and make the nerves cringe for a few minutes...all of her other vitals are still strong, she looks good, and continues to have good labs.
Prior to this morning I don't think that I had ever smiled so much. As Chris and I talked to her, she continually tried to find us with her precious little eyes. Then she would wiggle and lift her hands up. I cannot wait to hold her...I think we are going to try it tomorrow. As Chris mentioned yesterday, Isabella is a gift from God...so in closing I want to leave you with this...
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Glad you all are finally getting some rest and stability too. What a whirlwind of events for you over the last week and a half. You're in our thoughts & prayers everyday.
Machel and Chris, Just want you to know your friends in Seguin are praying for you and your beautiful little Bella. We wish we could be there to share a hug and to touch the precious little one. Know that you are in our thoughts and our prayers every day. Hold tight to each other and to the Lord. Blessings, Sharen
Baby Bella is such a fighter! She will get through it all and never stop amazing you! Parker too had the infection in his intestines and bowels as well. It is called Necrotizing Entrocolitus...NEC for short. Sounds like they caught it early and it may not have progressed to NEC yet. She is beautiful and always in our prayers. Please let me know if you need anything! Even just to talk with someone who understands.
I was sitting here today at work praying for little Bella and others out there that need the power of prayer and I happened to check my email when I received an email that at that very moment I needed to hear. I was filled with peace and realized that God will lead you down different roads, some pleasant and others not so pleasant, but he will always protect you and be there to help guide you through.
This is the email I received:
The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you." ~ Ephesians 3:20
Saint Theresa's Prayer
May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing,
Dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.
I have also been reading another blog about a micro-preemie that has shown the true Miracles of God. At this very moment she needs lots of prayers to survive and make it through a complication that has happened with her heart. I just think it is amazing to read how many supporters this little girl has had and that she has changed lives forever.
